Konnichiwa and Annyeong Haseyo minna-san

Hope that's correct above but what I'm saying is welcome everyone. May 10, 2019 is the first day of this blog and many may know me from 'Nao Kanzaki and Friends'... aitoda.com. There I have such a mix of things and finally decided to branch out with just a blog devoted to Japanese and Korean dramas. Will also be having some film reviews but one thing you won't see are any J-Pop idols or gravure models except for their dramas, this blog is dedicated 100% to dramas and films.

Also actresses as will be having many, many posts for them. Such as them appearing at events, mag spreads, interview pics and whatever else. So you should be seeing a lot of my bigger long time faves such as Erika Toda, Park Min-Young, Lee Yeon-Hee, Tsubasa Honda and too many others to count. The first few weeks there many not be too many posts for new dramas as I'll be copying many recaps from the old blog along with some film reviews and actress posts.

Won't be going too far back, perhaps to 2015 with a few exceptions and will have an entire series in a row to make it easy to follow. Did find it a problem completing series at the Nao Kanzaki blog, won't be doing that here as all the series will have a post for every episode. Thanks for visiting, it'll will be a work in progress for a while here but hopefully not for too long. Comments are also appreciated, like to know your opinions on dramas and for any recommendations you may have.

News and upcoming projects

Should have done this on my Aitoda blog which is to let viewers know what's going on. Seems like a good way to let everyone know if I'll be taking a break, what to look forward to and any other tidbits.

Updating update, May 19th:

Whew, have finally finished transferring over enough posts from the Aitoda blog. May be a few here and there in the future for some new that's being introduced but there shouldn't be too many. Have also included announcers for women that I'll be posting about as my top two current faves just happen to be in that profession.

The first five episodes of '3-Nen A Gumi' have now been posted. For series over five shows will be doing two batches of them as I figure ten posts are way too many to read through during one sitting so will have the second half of the drama coming up in 2-3 weeks, highly recommend the show.

June 4th.... Have written up the recaps for episodes 7 and 8 of the '3-Nen A Gumi' show and will have those long with episode eight by June 6th. Up next for Korean dramas is up in the air but leaning towards a pair of shorter series which will be either "Splish Splash Love" or "The Universe's Star".

"Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store" drama: Episode two recap

Air Dates: January 21st to March 23, 2016 on YTV, Thursdays at 1:29 pm
Each episode is about 23 minutes in length

Main Cast: Name of the convenience store is the Three Seven Temple Street Store.

Shotaro Mamiya as Tomoharu Nii.... new worker at the store who works overnight and by day is studying Buddhism, is a very stoic twenty something man

Kenji Urai as Matsukoma..... after being out of work for two years found a job at the store six months prior, works with Nii on the overnight shift

Rena Matsui as Kaede Shioyama.... is a nurse whose shift gets done after midnight so stops by the store every night, fell in love with Nii at first sight and grew up with Matsukoma

Jiro as Watari.... oldest clerk at the store and has the nickname of 'Lottery Senpai' as he often plays lottery games to get rich quick which has never panned out

Jiro Sato as Manager.... only goes by Manager and is quite the goofball

Rio Uchida as Megumi Tatsuzaki.... clerk at the store

Ryo Matsuda as Takeshi Shibata..... clerk at the store

Four years ago began viewing this funny and quite quirky drama. Watched the first three shows and posted mini recaps of them but mainly focusing on Rena who was such a massive fave of mine back then. But think the subbing team stopped after those three shows which is why I never finished, it eventually was completely subbed. So now am back to viewing it and it's a ten episode series, hope to recap the entire drama. Each show is a stand alone one as there's really no main storyline to the show save for Kaede's crush on Nii plus the odd events that happen overnight at the store. The recaps shouldn't be too long but will have plenty of screenshots, let's get on with the post.

Did briefly say in the previous recap that this is such a visual show as there's often stretches with little or no dialogue. However interesting this series is doesn't translate over as well to writing about it and really needs to be seen to understand all of the small details which happen. It's actually not too wacky of a series, many off the wall moments and the Manager is definitely a bit loony but it's not too overly crazy.
At the top is Nii who is explaining to his co-worker Matsukoma what he would do if there was a robbery at the convenience store. Nii is training to be a Buddhist monk but he would show a criminal no mercy as Nii would inflict such brutal damage on a potential robber. That shocked Matsukoma who is so timid and would probably help a robber out any way he could. Sales at the store have been slipping lately according to the Manager, if that's the case why does he have three clerks work the overnight shift?
His proposal is to introduce a new product that would draw the customers in. Manager's idea was to have Strawberry Daifuku milk as their potential hot seller which made the clerks roll their eyes. Manager bought a thousand of the bottles but no one knows how it tastes as the daifuku clogs up the top of the bottle and you can't insert a straw! That's okay according to Manager as what a unique product they could have, an undrinkable drink! After that spiel from Manager Matsukoma and Nii were witnessing the older clerk Watari go through the register looking at the coins, was he possibly taking them for himself?

Watari is nicknamed 'Lottery Senpai' as he'll do anything to realize his dream of becoming filthy rich. He usually plays the lottery with no success but in this show had another scheme. That was to look for old and unique ten yen coins that were only produced from 1951 to 1958. They're called 'Milled Tens' and are rare in present times, if he could collect enough of them he'd be rich! Probably not as it would take thousands of them but that won't stop Watari and to his amazement Nii had three of those coins in his wallet, he still has a long, long way to go before rolling in dough.
Kaede's appearance in this episode wasn't as long plus she was sleeping for most of it. Sleeping because after her shift as a nurse Kaede went to a pub and downed quite a few drinks, she needed the courage to face the love of her life Nii. But Kaede had too much to imbibe and passed out when she entered the store, Nii carried her to the break room and if Kaede had been awake while that was happening she may have had a heart attack.
To end the show off three days later at 4:07 am a little girl entered the store, she was alone because her parents were sleeping and she wanted something at the store but what she wasn't sure of. Little kids really bother Nii who asked the girl Sae to stop helping him out loading lunches on a shelf. Something clicked though and before long they were working as a pair, Nii said in the future Sae may come in handy(?). She grew tired of the work so left for home, it had been pouring outside but Nii gave her an umbrella to use which brings us to the conclusion of this recap.

I alsovisit sites to read drama recaps and to me prefer shorter ones like these for the series. So many of my Korean drama posts are three times as long, have found out it's a talent then to keep them short without leaving out any major details. For a Korean series it's almost impossible but not for a show like this one and when I visit a site enjoy reading these shorter recaps versus ones that are 10,000+ words long. Plenty of screenshots I always take though so you can see most of what took place, two more posts to go in this mini marathon.
